I guess they don't like people observing the inner workings of their cult.
It also creates another level for their followers to work towards. You don't get access to the "secret" knowledge until you have proven that you can be trusted and prove your allegiance to the inner circle. (Just like the Scientology with its Sea Org) Typical cult behavior.
